Regulate & Liberate – automatic eating behaviours
Bring Automatic Eating Behaviours Into Attention
This practice is designed to help bring automatic behaviour into conscious awareness.
Because many of the patterns that influence our relationship with food happen outside of conscious attention.
Habits.
Reactions.
Urges.
Routines.
Emotional responses.
Behaviours that may have been repeated so many times they begin feeling automatic.
And when behaviour feels automatic, it can often feel confusing.
You may find yourself wondering:
Why did I do that?
Why do I keep repeating this pattern?
Why does this happen even when I genuinely want things to be different?
But lasting change rarely begins with control.
It begins with awareness.
Because once a pattern becomes visible, it becomes something you can understand.
And once you understand it, new choices become possible.
This practice creates space for observation.
Not judgement.
Not criticism.
Not forcing yourself to change.
Simply noticing what may have previously been running on autopilot.
With curiosity.
Compassion.
And awareness.
When to use this practice
You may find this particularly supportive when:
• you keep repeating behaviours you do not fully understand
• you find yourself eating automatically or impulsively
• you want to better understand your triggers and patterns
• you feel frustrated by habits that seem difficult to change
• you are beginning to explore the emotional, behavioural, or environmental factors influencing your choices
• you want to strengthen awareness before creating change
This can be used at any time…
But is particularly powerful when you find yourself wondering:
Why did I do that?
Because awareness is often where transformation begins.
How to approach this practice
There is nothing you need to force here.
You are not trying to convince yourself of something new.
You are allowing yourself to begin experiencing something different.
If it feels unfamiliar, that’s okay.
If part of you resists it, that’s okay.
Just stay with the experience.
Gently.
Because identity does not change through pressure.
It changes through repetition and experience.
Listening with headphones/earphone is recomended.
Begin when you’re ready
You can return to this practice as often as you need.
Each time you do, you are creating space where there was once automatic response.
